Children are
endless bundles of energy. Although we often want to calm them down,
it’s important to feed that energy and those growing bodies
with
healthy snacks for kids. Having a variety of snacks available from day
to day eases the monotony of snack time.
Sweet healthy snacks for kids:
Layered Pudding
-Fat Free chocolate pudding
-Fat Free vanilla pudding
-One banana, sliced
-Whipped topping (sugar free and/or fat free)
Alternate layers of chocolate pudding, vanilla pudding, and sliced
bananas in a glass. Top with a dollop of whipped topping.
Fruit and Dip
-Honey
-Cinnamon
-Fat Free plain yogurt
-Various fruits, sliced into dipping sizes
Use a fork or small whisk to whip a little honey and cinnamon into
small cups of fat free plain yogurt. Offer this as a dip for the fruit.
Fruit Smoothies
-One banana
-Two handfuls of frozen berries
-1 cup milk
-1/2 banana
-1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
Place all ingredients in the blender and blend until very smooth.
Serves two to four, depending on glass size. Serve with fun straws!
Salty healthy snacks for kids:
Trail Mix
-Pretzel sticks (fat free)
-Peanuts
-Cashews
-Dried cranberries
-Raisins
-Cheerios
Mix all ingredients together and separate into snack sized zippered
baggies. Keep them on hand for kid sized snack attacks!
Baked Sweet Potato Chips
-Sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced very thinly
-Spices of your choice
-2 Tbsp olive oil
Toss the sliced sweet potatoes in the oil until completely coated. Add
the spices and continue to toss until coated. Layer the chips on a
baking sheet and sprinkle VERY lightly with salt. Bake at four hundred
degrees until crisp.
Healthy snacks for kids at school:
Low Fat Cheese and Crackers
-Pack whole grain crackers and slices of low fat cheese, along with a
small ice pack to keep the cheese fresh.
Fruit
-Strawberries, grapes, or a banana. Simple, but tasty!
