With all of the
pushes from every media
outlet and every doctor to get up off our behinds and get healthy,
everyone is searching for the right way to do so.
The thing is, there
isn’t just one way. However, you can get a good jump on it by
tossing out the chips and dip and cookies and trying out some healthy
snack ideas.
At work, the healthiest and easiest snack to
grab and have on hand is fruit and veggies. Vegetables can be pre-cut
once a week and put in individual baggies (or plastic containers for
those trying to go green) in the fridge.
Just grab one on your way out
the door in the morning. You can even get plastic containers with dip
sections built right in at your local organization or discount store.
Pick up five of these, and your work snacks can be prepared each Sunday
with minimal fuss.
Another option is to take one or two
bananas,
apples, pears, peaches, or other fruit that can be eaten with no
preparation. Fruit and vegetables are high in fiber and they will keep
your stomach full for a bit.
Of course, always keep a bottle of water
at your desk. If you make a goal to drink two or three every day at
work, you’ll be amazed at the change in your health and skin.
Healthy snack ideas that take just a little
more prep (and offer a little more variety) include popcorn (get the
94% fat free microwave popcorn…don’t pop your own
in oil then add a bunch of butter! Kind of negates the purpose!),
low-fat and low-cal blueberry muffins (blueberries are quite high in
antioxidants), fruit smoothies, etc.
Blueberry muffins
-4 cups whole wheat flour
-1 teaspoon baking powder
-1 teaspoon salt
-1/2 cup canola oil
-1/2 cup honey
-1 cup frozen blueberries
-1 cup water
Preheat oven to 350. Mix dry ingredients
together. Add wet ingredients. Stir just until moist. Bake in muffin
tins for 25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
I hope these healthy snack ideas help you
get on the right track to a healthier lifestyle!
